What is 1:1 and what are the benefits?

1:1 (One to One) is where, in a school, each student has their own dedicated device which they use as part of their learning. The device belongs to the student, so they use it both in school and for studying at home.

Because each student has their own device, it can be personalised for exactly how they need to use it. This is very different from sharing a device between different students who might have different needs.

As well as supporting independent learning and better collaboration, a student with access to their own device can develop skills using tools that they will continue to use beyond their schooling and into their careers.

Right device for your students

Choosing the right device for your students

The majority of schools we work with opt for a 2-in-1 laptop. This is a device that looks like a laptop, but which can also fold into a tablet, or has a detachable keyboardThis type of device offers a huge amount of flexibility for students to use it in different positions to suit they type of lesson they are taking part in. It can be used like a laptop with a full keyboard for standard lessons and homework, it tent mode for watching video content, and tablet mode is great for practical exercises using the stylus pen.

At Olive for Education we work closely with our technology partners to make sure that the devices we offer are a perfect fit for 1:1 students and their educatorsThis includes making sure that each device:

Going 1:1 with Olive for Education

01.

We understand the need to tailor each build to cater to the specific user. Most support providers don’t differentiate their services between corporate and education, or simply don’t have the necessary expertise in Edtech. We only work in the education sector, and use a ‘clean-build‘ protocol for optimised security, performance and peace of mind.

02.

Our device management services allow the school to monitor all of their devices from the one platform. This means you can decide exactly what apps are installed and which are prohibited. Lock down what sites can be viewed, and which location they can be viewed from. Security updates can be rolled out automatically to all users, keeping devices safe & secure.

03.

We’ve used and tested countless devices in our time in Edtech and have come to learn which ones are best suited to an active student population and which are better off in an office environment. As a result, we will only recommend devices which we’ve tested against the rigors of the classroom and can fully stand over for use in education.
