Device Management

Configuration

The build of any device can massively impact on it’s effective running and risk to vulnerabilities. In education, security is the most important area of concern for both school leaders and parents alike, and the potential ramifications of poor set up can range from the ability for students to download inappropriate apps, to fatal cyber attacks.  Which is why our technicians make secure configuration their number one priority for any devices we are responsible for setting up.

Our ‘Clean-Build’ protocol

Most devices routinely come with ‘bloatware’ – which is essentially software (such as free trials and apps) that is pre-installed on a new device by the manufacturer that is often unnecessary for the user and can slow down the system’s performance. These programs can take up valuable storage space and resources, potentially affecting the laptop’s speed and efficiency.

At Olive, we like to start with a completely clean slate before setting up any device, so unlike some other providers who simply start installing software on the device as is, we take the time to completely remove any bloatware or unnecessary applications as the very first step of our device configuration process. We call it our ‘clean build’ protocol and believe that it’s this level of thoroughness and attention to detail that sets us apart.

Risks of poor configuration

Deployment

Once any bloatware has been removed, our technicians then begin the device build according to the detailed specifications which have been pre-agreed with the School’s key stakeholders.

Each device will be configured to the school network, any learning software like Microsoft 365 will be pre-installed, and there will be restrictions for students on accessing any apps or sites that have not been authorised. Each device is ready for use as soon as it’s received, so the limitless learning can begin!
